Flying Into the New Era: Top 10 New Cards of 2012

Normally, Mondays are for ranting, as you may have noticed. This week, we decided to do something a little different since it is New Year's Eve. Today we will be counting down what we feel are the Top 10 new cards that were released during the year of 2012. The list contains cards from Tournament Pack 4, Sage's Legacy, Kage Summit, and Avenger's Wrath. We did not include the newest series, Hero's Ascension, due to the fact that we cannot accurately size the cards against others due to there being no tournament data until after the set becomes legal on January 4th, 2013.

This Top 10 list covers the cards that we feel were some of the best cards released and had the most impact of the game. Cards that have been used to great efficiency are likely to appear on the list, and we did our best to prioritize the most played and best cards in a countdown style list.

MJM and I will be posting a card every hour on the hour, culminating in the number one card at midnight. Be sure to check back every hour as he add a new card to the list, starting with number ten and going all the way to the card we feel was the best card of 2012.

Competition: Holiday Contest 2012

So after a bit of deliberation on what exactly we might do for a contest, my Weekend Q&A Extravaganza (which will extend past the weekend into all along the holiday week) inspired me to do a contest that deals with something I am the most involved in, the rules of the game. After a bit of perusing around and play testing a bunch of decks, I have decided the best way to test the knowledge of other players, as well as the best way to make you all wrack your brains in order to win something, is to give you all the brain twister in the form of having to properly work out a game state scenario.

By that, I mean I am going to give you a pretend board state, as if you were actually playing the Naruto CCG. I will then give you a moment in the game that I want you to play out, with all the relevant information given to you.  Those who give me the correct answer (and I expect only a few), will be entered into the drawing for the grand prize. Based on the number of entries as well as the number of correct answers, additional prizes will be drawn for as well. Below is all the important information you will need.

Your Field

These are all of your in play cards that you need to worry about, as they have some sort of impact on the actions that can be taken or not. I have them listed in this order for a specific reason, which is listed below.

Hotaru Katsuragi [Tsuchigumo's Heir] (Currently Flashpointed)
Hotaru Katsuragi [Tsuchigumo's Heir]  (Currently Flashpointed)
Tenten [Endless Arsenal]
Shikamaru Nara [Outwit]
Ino Yamanaka (Childhood) [Academy Training]  (Please note that Ino has an Errata)
Asuma Sarutobi [Mentor for the Future]
Giant Eagle

Your Task

It is the start of your turn. Place the start of turn triggers of the above Ninjas on the chain in the order they appear, and then resolve them all properly, including any other effects that may trigger in the process   Assume you have No Revitalize cards in your deck. All cards in your hand are also Earth cards. You have four cards in your hand.

The Order

x2 Hotaru (Flashpointed)
Tenten
Ino Yamnaka (Childhood)
Asuma Sarutobi

The best way to answer each step would be a numbered list, which you describe what you're adding to the chain and the actions necessary to do so. The same goes for when you make the list of resolving effects. Give me a numbered list and what action you take as each effect resolves.

I have attached a video of the scenario in order to give everyone a bit of visual help.

A Hint

I am feeling a bit generous due to the Holiday spirit, so I will give you one hint in order to help you solve this puzzle. The very last action that you should have on your entry, to know that it is complete, is that you Draw your 1 card for the turn.

The Rest

Entries should be submitted to shinomjm@gmail.com with the message named, "Mull to Four Contest". Please include your Name (and Bandai forum name if applicable), as well as your solution either in the body of the email or as a text file attachment.  The Deadline for all entries is January 11th.  On January 12th, we will release the solution video as well as the names of those who won.

NOTE: While it isn't possible to cheat exactly, we will be carefully reading each entry. Duplicate entries that are submitted under different names will both be ignored. It is very unlikely that two different people will type and format their answers in the exact same manner, word for word, space for space.

Prizes will include but will not be limited to: Deck boxes, Play Mats, and Target Promos. Good luck everyone, and Happy Holidays!

Comparative Strengths: Set 27 - Fire

So, it's Saturday and the world didn't end yesterday. Sorry for those who are disappointed. For the rest of us, we can celebrate the turning of the Wheel of Ages and bring in the new Mayan Calender with our final Comparative Strengths article, focusing on my second favorite element, Fire. Take a look at Shino'sDad's impression on the cards that Fire received in Set 27 Hero's Ascension after the jump.

Comparative Strengths: Set 27 - Lightning

If you're reading this it means you are part of the select few who have survived the destruction of Planet Earth. I congratulate you for your survival however I regret to inform you that the creators and designers of the Bandai CCG have all passed. Not a single one was able to survive the apocalypse. In other news, Mull to Four founders, Shino'sDad and I, have made it out okay. Hit the jump for our Lightning review.

Comparative Strengths: Set 27 - Wind

We continue our review of Set 27, Hero's Ascension today by taking a look at the Wind element cards in the set. When we originally had doled out who was going to review which element, I actually ended up having to take Wind as my last choice, forgetting that Void was a selectable element and having taken Fire as my first pick, and Earth afterwards for some random reason.

Comparative Strengths: Set 27 - Water

Everyone knows both Shino'sDad and I love Water; it's our favorite element. I was lucky enough to have the honor of reviewing it in today's Comparative Strengths. Remember that Shino'sDad will go over Wind tomorrow and finish off this week with Fire on Saturday (Our most astute readers will see the change up). As for me, my last review will be Friday with Lightning. Be on the look out for them because we'll be taking the most of next week off.

Comparative Strengths: Set 27 - Earth

We continue our week long review of Set 27, Hero's Ascension with my review of the Earth cards in the set. I'll break down my thoughts on the element as a whole as well as give you my impressions on what I feel are the five best cards for the element. Check out the list after the jump.

Comparative Strengths: Set 27 - Void

Welcome to the Comparative Strengths, the segment where we take a look at the six elements in the new set and discuss them and their effect on the game as whole. We'll also be including the top five cards of the element for the set and maybe some honorable mentions. This week we have the six elements all in a row for you. We both alternated in selecting one of the six elements so we won't necessarily be getting the same elements each set. Today we have for you Void, Tuesday will be Earth, Wednesday Water, Thursday Fire, Friday Lightning, and Saturday Wind.

Electronic Scoreboard: 01 "Drill That Will Pierce Heaven"

So Shino'sDad and I were bored earlier and decided to actually go through on what we said we would a week or two ago. That's right, we made a video, technically... We didn't, we just provided commentary on someone else's game. Hit the jump for the video.

Feudal Lord's Treasure: Set 27 Super Rare Overview Part 2

Set 27: Hero's Ascension hits stores today and you should have seen all of the set. If you haven't, you can check out the whole set on the Card List. If you want some more insight on the cards found in Set 27, you're in luck. As you know, this past Wednesday, Shino'sDad put up the first part of the Super Rare Overview, which you can find here. I'm sure you're aware that this is Part 2. Next week we are going to go through every element and discuss the top five cards from Set 27: Hero's Ascension and discuss their impact on the game. But enough about that, I'm going to pick up where Shino'sDad left off and discuss the rest of the Super Rares in the set. Just as Shino'sDad did, I will be discussing the remaining Super Rares in the order they appear on the Card List.

Feudal Lord's Treasure: Set 27 Super Rare Overview Part 1

With Set 27, Hero's Ascension releasing this Friday, MJM and I decided that before taking a full look at the entire set as a whole, we could touch upon the Super Rares that are in the set.  This week we'll address those, and all next week we will discuss each element separately and in detail.  Each of us chose seven Super Rares, including one of each of the Starter Deck Exclusive Super Rares to discuss this week.  My picks were: The 3rd Tsuchikage, Killer Bee (Version 2), The 4th Hokage, Tsunade, Pain (Deva Path), Double Lariat, and Summoning Jutsu: Reanimation.  I will be discussing them in no particular order, merely how they were numbered on the card list.  Also, I'll be posting insightful comments from you, the players, that I have collected from the Facebook preview pages.

Information Extraction: Super Card List Tracker

So when I went to look for the older version of Interrogation in the card list I found that there were two versions. The original one from Foretold Prophecy and the one from Hero's Ascension. I quickly realized that they had added Set 27 to the card list without images. The remaining previews are...

Musings of the Hermit: An Abrasive Attitude

So as you might know, I am completely and utterly flabbergasted by the ignorance and over all poor knowledge over the Naruto CCG that has been pouring through the cracks ever since Bandai started posting their previews for Set 27 Hero's Ascension on Facebook instead of the main website page for the game itself.

Now, you'll get to see plenty of hilarious quotes from people in the next two weeks, as MJM and I review the Super Rares this week, and then all next week, we break down the top cards of each element and offer our opinions on how it might change the meta game once the new set is legal. But for now, I just wanted to take a moment to rant about a particularly irritating moment that happened today that has to deal with the new Ino that was previewed.

Public Execution: YouTube, You're Doing it Wrong

What's better than a rant post from MJM on Monday? I can't think of anything else either. Today I'm going to be cutting into a media outlet of the Naruto CCG that isn't really as big as it is for other card games, YouTube. Don't get me wrong, YouTube is a great way to promote the game, share information, and just discuss the game in general, since many players are auditory and/or visual learners. However, there are are many, many things that just tick me off when I watch NaruTube Videos.

This isn't a flame post on any specific YouTube Channel, however I must note that some Channels tick me off more than others, because everybody, and I mean everybody, does at least one of these things. Before I kill the NaruTube Community, let me remind you that we will be having articles pertaining to specific Set 27 cards on Wednesday and Friday so watch out for that.

Let the execution begin.

Ninja Info Cards: Super Bushy Browbeater

The release of Set 27: Hero's Ascension is less than two weeks away and, as a result, the players are scrambling to order boxes and cases in time for Christmas. The card list is almost complete and today we have another card to add to it, but before we get into it let's take a stroll down memory lane. If you haven't gotten the gist of the preview yet, it's a Rock Lee.

Hidden Capacity: Tina Perm Your Fucking Weave

This is a post-Set 27 Deck.

As the release of Set 27: Hero's Ascension approaches, I'm sure many players are excited about the new cards found within the set. However, let's not forget about the cards we already have. Many players have dismissed anything that's not Fire or Lightning. The better players have noticed that out of the four other elements, one of them is superior to the others: Earth.

Ninja Info Cards: A Dangerous Writing Utensil

Set 27, Hero's Ascension received an official release date of December 14th just recently, meaning that we have just two weeks until the set launches. In the mean time, Bandai has been feeding the public previews through the ever popular social media outlet known as Facebook. This has been both a blessing and a curse. While it allows easy and greater overall access to the card previews themselves, it has also brought a torrent of prospective players whom are none too keen on the actual rules of the game at times. Thankfully, we have plenty of perfectly intelligent folks out there who are more than willing to make sure we know just how bad Masked Man is...
